Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life Real Or Just Myth?
“Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.” We have all heard the saying, but exactly how true is it? Can thought really force something to manifest into experience? Can you really transform your entire existence just by thinking about it? In terms of attracting physical conditions or phenomena into your life, the answer is unquestionably no. Changing your thoughts will give you an increased chance of taking the action which will lead to long term physical change, but to give magical properties to thought is clearly just plain nonsense.
There is much more of a basis to the statement in the mental realm. However, changing thought patterns is not as easy as changing, for example, a light bulb. The bulb will not resist you, but the subconscious mind will vigorously resist any attempt to change the fundamental patterns which have been with it for so long. Remember, the primary postulate of the subconscious mind is the survival of the organism itself, and whatever has happened to you in your life, you have survived. To the subconscious, that is at least a partial victory.
The subconscious mind will be initially frightened of any attempt to make dramatic changes to your life. The only way you can overcome this reluctance is by being gentle but persistent. If you can recite affirmations, or have them recited from a recording, using a soft voice and relaxed intonation, you can persuade the subconscious that the instructions do not constitute any kind of threat. If you can also be persistent enough to wear down the defenses which have been erected, you will eventually see change.
Although this could be classed as “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life”, it really is a lot more involved and requires a lot more effort than many would like to admit. Eventually, the subconscious mind will come to realize that the affirmations are safe, and also that they are actually in the long term interests of the survival of the organism. At this point, the subconscious mind swings round to be completely on your side. So, yes, thoughts can change your life, at least in this way.
To progress from this stage to the position where you can begin to change your actual physical circumstances will require a lot more effort. While affirmations and visualization are very useful tools for getting your mental state right, there is a lot more which you will need to add. You will need desire, determination, and consistent action in order to realize the goals you have set for yourself. Thoughts can certainly help you to change your life, but they won't change it for you. Always remember what it will really take the next time someone tries to say you can “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.”
