Keep Your Affirmations Positive But Relaxed

Through the everyday use of affirmations positive messages can be implanted into your subconscious mind. Given constant repetition, they can then take root and become a force for good.

So that this can happen, the affirmations need to conquer the contrary learning which has taken root in the subconscious mind, often from childhood. If the previous pattern is well entrenched, it is important to realize from the start that a considerable effort will be needed to make the change.

Before you can understand how affirmations can impact the mind, you need to understand some of the workings of the subconscious mind. This deeper level of consciousness is concerned first and foremost with survival. Although this is fundamentally positive, it can create problems as side effects. The subconscious mind understands that however unsatisfactory your life may have been up until now, at least you have survived. For all the subconscious mind knows, you could have survived as a result of the unsatisfactory conditions. This explains why the subconscious is so resistant to change.

What is needed is for you to gently reassure the subconscious mind that you can effect the positive changes to your life, and still retain the same degree of safety. The one thing you should avoid is frighten the subconscious mind. Giving it daily affirmations in a relaxed way is going to be very important. Your voice should be relaxed, rather than excited, and your body must be in a relaxed state when you make the affirmation. This will help the inner mind to associate it with positive circumstances.

The subconscious mind will, at first, resist your attempts at change. It will perceive them as a threat to its ability to survive. Daily affirmations are going to be necessary to convince the subconscious mind to acquiesce to your higher will. Of course, the subconscious is going to do everything it can to hinder your attempt to make daily affirmations! This is where you need to exercise your will power. If you fail to carry out your affirmations for a day, maybe because you get caught up in unexpected daily activities, don't beat yourself up over it. Just start again the next day, and reinforce the positive pattern.

When the mind is given this gentle persuasion over a period of time, the subconscious part of your mind will eventually turn around, and become wholly on your side. When this will happen is difficult to predict, as it depends entirely on how deeply ingrained the initial negative thought patterns were, and how many times it has been reinforced by further negative experiences. What is certain, however, is that once the subconscious has come over onto your side, by far the most important battle of the war will have been won. Try not to decrease your efforts at this stage, but keep going in the same relaxed but determined way. Keep your tone relaxed, and the affirmations positive.
